Looking around the house it does not feel like we will be on the road in just over two weeks. We have made a lot of progress but the list of things still to do seems daunting.
Gloria is in micro management mode regarding the house, packing and end of year homeschool reporting. I can’t imagine where we would be at if I was in charge of organizing closing up our daily life.
On the actual travel packing front the good news is it seems we have more room in our backpacks than I thought we would. So I think we will get by with having the two large backpacks that we need to check in on the airplane and then each kid having their backpack that can go as carry-on.
As official travel planner I am madly trying to finalize the first couple of months of travel without booking everything. The more I research (and re-research and research some more) the more I end up wanting to plan the whole thing. So much for being footloose and fancy free and taking one day at a time! I guess until we get a sense of our travel style and our comfort level of just showing up somewhere it is probably better to err on the side of caution and plan stuff especially for the first little bit. Picking accommodations is sort of the hardest thing as you pour over reviews of recommended guesthouses and you are inclined to want to book right away so you don’t risk losing the opportunity to stay in the “perfect” place that is both good value and that other travelling families rave about. Of course I imagine the other half a dozen places that have good reviews would be fine as well.
