Action packed days in the jungle

It was a busy couple of days for the Fab5 but our time in Taman Negara was definitely well worth the effort.

From the moment we arrived and the kids spied a couple of boars roaming the Mutiara Taman Negara Resort I think we all knew we were in for something special. Of course we found out later that the boars were not that wild as we later saw them retire to a shed at the resort (probably ditto for the Tapir I bumped into that evening).  The resort was right in the national park which meant we splurged a bit but got beautiful jungle surrounds and all the wonderful accompanying sounds that go with it. I imagine it would have been quite romantic sans kids.

Turned out there were basically no bugs or mosquitoes so we probably didn’t need to worry about the malaria pills. While our first night we just took it easy and got settled we did have a meal on one of the many floating restaurants on the Kuala Tahan side of the river.

Yesterday was a different story and was jam packed with jungle trekking, canopy walking, rapid riding, blow dart shooting (sadly all the kids did better than I did) and night time 4x4ing on an open air truck (no seat belts). We sweated, got real wet, learned a bit about the indigenous Orang Asli people and found a few nocturnal creatures on top of many we found during the day.

Rather than babble on I will share a bunch of photos (kind of tired as we had a long day of travel to Melaka today)

And while we saw a few wild cats, a snake, birds and a few glowing eyes on our 4×4 night safari (the kids loved bobbing through the palm oil plantation) we did see more animals at the resort.

Of course the most exciting animal that Cen actually spotted on the night safari before our guide was able to shine his spotlight on it was a …
